Dominic Florence
Concerts

Though it may seem incongruous in relation to his chosen profession, Dominic does not particularly enjoy giving public recitals. It is not trepidation or lack of confidence that assails him, rather he simply prefers the moments of private practice.

He also deplores the thought of giving a single recital for a given program; it seems unnatural to him having a specific endpoint or culminating concert. He wishes concerts were only assigned their true importance as waypoints on a continuous journey.

Often Dominic favours performing at venues where he might incorporate a lecture during the program. As such, it is more likely to hear him at a university than a large concert hall. Unfortunately, in line with his distaste for publicity, you will rarely find his concerts advertised, unless I eventually persuade him to post them on this website. In addition to public concerts, he performs in his house every Friday evening for a few invited guests.

For those unlucky enough to have never heard him play, a few words may be said about his style. Audiences tend to have passionate reactions to his performances. Some people find him to be harsh, extreme, violent, and uncompromising. Others find him to be clear, intelligent, subtle, and exciting. He is content to engender such differing opinions, he wants to set minds in motion, no matter the direction. More on this subject may be found on the Bach Keyboard Sessions page.

Dominic is currently learning and performing all of J. S. Bach's works for keyboard. For more information, please see the page entitled Bach Keyboard Sessions. During concerts that are not part of his Bach survey, he will often perform something by Beethoven, Scriabin or Liszt.

What follows is a list of pieces Dominic has performed in public and would be willing to perform again in the future. This list does not show the chamber music or concertos that he has performed.
